First Thing I Tell a New Mentee

You should create your own board of directors. These people can be friends and family, colleagues and your leadership. It should include people who have had some great, rich experiences. Use your board of directors through the course of your career as reference points to see how you’re doing and to help you chart your course for the future. If you don’t, you may become too reliant on a singular point of input, which can be risky. The other thing is, you need to have help through the process, whether you want to become a CEO or whatever it is.
